LAKE RESIDENCE

On the site of an historic family lake cabin, we built a new 4-season house that reflects the family’s history and better accommodates their current needs.
The first floor of the house contains the master bedroom as well as all the main public spaces so that the owner can continue to live happily as she ages. The second floor contains 3 guest bedrooms and bathroom for family visits.
We worked with the client to include many design elements she requested, such as the stone columns at the entry. These helped us arrive at the modified shingle style of the house. At the client’s request, we also incorporated 2 beveled glass and 1 stained glass window from the old cabin into the kitchen cabinet doors and into the stair wall, respectively. Additionally, we designed the rooms around several pieces of cherished family furniture, including a white wicker seating set used in the porch.
With its wide overhangs and shingle siding, the shingle style allowed the house fit into the woodsy setting on the roadside of the house. By incorporating a linked double dormer as well as more windows and trim, the house opens up and lightens up on the bright lakeside. Both sides of the house are linked by style, materials, and by the immediate, straight-on view of the lake from the front loggia and all the way through the house.
